Eye bag surgery story: fixing puffy eye bags, and not letting others define my looks

"I'm Jiu-Jiu, I'm 26, and I'm a fitness coach. I noticed I had eye bags in high school and tried massage, internet home remedies, warm compresses, going to bed early and more, but nothing worked. Later, meeting some nurses and friends in aesthetic medicine got me interested in aesthetic treatments..."

I noticed my eye bags in high school, and group photos with friends showed a huge difference

My eye bags don't seem hereditary; I only noticed them in high school, and they made me look tired. It started with photos: with the unfiltered camera my eye bags were very obvious, my whole face looked puffy and my eyes looked tiny. The friend in the photo didn't have that problem and looked much smoother, and I wondered what was going on with my eyes, hahaha. When doing makeup I also noticed that one area was especially puffy. I tried all sorts of things (massage, internet remedies, warm compresses, going to bed early and more), but none of them worked.

I was afraid of surgery, but friends changed my view of aesthetic medicine

My first contact with aesthetic medicine was when another clinic approached me for a sponsored collaboration. I didn't know much about aesthetic medicine then, and that clinic wasn't very well known, so we didn't work together. That's roughly when I started learning about eye bag surgery, but I backed off because I was afraid it wouldn't go well and I'd need it redone. Later I got to know some nurses and friends in aesthetic medicine, who told me that eye bag surgery is a minor procedure. Many friends recommended NAISS, and when I looked it up, the online reviews and doctors' cases were very good, so I decided to have surgery here. Every time I come to NAISS CLINIC I'm well looked after, with tea and snacks. I feel properly cared for; you're never left without someone checking on you!

Dr. Po-Ying Lee's gentle manner eased my nerves a lot

I was pretty calm on surgery day and only got nervous once I was lying on the operating table. I had local anesthesia, so I could hear sounds during the procedure. The most uncomfortable part was the anesthetic injection, which goes into the sensitive area around the eyes and eyelids, but after that I didn't feel much. Dr. Lee kept reassuring me and checking how I was doing throughout. Most importantly, he would tell me, "Now I'm going to do this!" He told me in advance before each step so I knew what was coming next, which made me feel at ease, so the surgery wasn't as scary as I'd imagined.

Back at work 3 days after surgery, recovered in a week

I think my swelling went down quite fast. It was only very swollen on surgery day before the anesthetic wore off, and it went down once I got home, haha! It looked a bit like puffy eyes after crying. By day three there was hardly any swelling, so I went back to work. There was no pain, and no bruising during recovery either. The doctor said I might have some bloody fluid or tissue fluid seeping out, but that didn't happen to me. After about 7 days I was fully recovered and going out with makeup. I think it's because I carefully followed the doctor's instructions, drinking the herbal recovery tonic and using cold compresses, and I didn't stay up late, used my phone less and went to bed early.

Full marks for satisfaction, and no more anxiety about photos

It's been 2 months since surgery, and I give it a full 10, because when I look in the mirror there are no more eye bags. I'm so happy! Many colleagues only realized how obvious my eye bags had been after the surgery, haha, because a lot of them can't tell the difference between eye bags, tear troughs and dark circles

The biggest change after surgery is my mood; everything looks good to me now, haha. As for practical changes, it's makeup and photos. I no longer spend ages figuring out how to cover my eye bags, and when friends take photos with the unfiltered camera, I'm not so anxious anymore

Full marks for satisfaction, and no more anxiety about photos

I wish I'd done it after high school, and I sincerely recommend eye bag surgery

If I could, I'd have had surgery right after high school, because that's when you care most about your looks. Since my surgery, I've won over lots of friends who now want it too. If a friend asks my opinion, I'll strongly recommend it!! Because I think my overall image and the smoothness of my face have improved a lot. As for clinics and doctors, I only recommend ones I've experienced myself, and since my results at NAISS CLINIC were great, I recommend it to everyone.

On appearance anxiety: others shouldn't define how you look

I do have a little appearance anxiety. I love taking photos but don't feel very photogenic, so whenever I look through the raw shots, I fixate on my flaws. Sometimes I even apologize to the photographer, haha, and ask them to retouch a bit more, but they usually tell me they didn't retouch much (P.S. I personally think they're just being polite, haha).

I think appearance anxiety comes from how pervasive the internet is now, so many women probably have some degree of it and may feel they're not that attractive. My definition of beauty: as long as I'm comfortable with how I look. It's not about what others think I should look like, it's about what I like

I'm comfortable going out without makeup, though I always wear a mask, haha. For about a week after surgery I couldn't wear makeup, and I felt my appearance anxiety eased a little then, because I knew it would look great the moment the tape came off, haha! I once traveled to Korea, where many people walk around right after surgery without caring what others think (I think it's just a different culture there). So after my aesthetic treatment, I also feel there's no need to care what others think. I just want to look better, so why worry about anyone else!
