Key takeaways
Winny, 29, has always had a normal weight but has had a double chin for years, blurring the line between her chin and neck in profile. After an assessment with Dr. Che-Wei Chang at NAISS CLINIC, she chose liposuction for the fat under her chin. She wore a chin strap early on, and the first 7 days took the most adjusting. After about a month the swelling had gone down, and she says her jawline is more defined and she no longer needs to edit out her double chin in photos.

"I'm Winny, and I'm 29. My double chin has bothered me for as long as I can remember. No matter how my weight changed, whenever I looked down a little or was photographed from the side, it was really obvious. I wanted a clearer line between my chin and neck, so I wouldn't have to keep hiding my double chin in photos..."
I'm not overweight, but the double chin never went away
My weight has never really been a problem, but I've just always had a double chin.
Whenever I looked down slightly, turned to the side, or a photo was taken from the wrong angle, the fullness under my chin really stood out. In profile especially, the boundary between my chin and neck was blurry, and my face looked less defined.
What I cared about most wasn't having a tiny face. I wanted the jawline hidden by my double chin to look a bit clearer.
Why I finally chose double chin liposuction
At first I wondered whether losing a bit more weight or exercising would improve my double chin.
But since it didn't appear because I gained weight, and had always been there, I decided to go straight to a doctor for advice.
A friend of mine had liposuction at NAISS and shared her experience with me, so I decided to come here for a consultation. After the assessment, it turned out what bothered me was mainly fat buildup under the chin, so I chose liposuction to improve it.
For me, this decision wasn't about making my face very pointed or small. I wanted to bring back the definition of my blurred jawline so my profile would look sharper.
Why liposuction for a double chin? Dr. Che-Wei Chang's assessment
After an assessment by Dr. Che-Wei Chang, we chose liposuction to treat the fat in the double chin area.
Because the double chin area is fairly concentrated and sits where the face meets the neck, the plan wasn't just about "how much fat can be removed"; it also took into account my original chin contour, jawline, and skin condition.
Liposuction can be done through small incisions. Besides improving my double chin, I also cared about the incisions not being too noticeable.
So the focus wasn't simply how much fat to remove, but that after treating the double chin, the contour from my chin to my neck could become clearer again.
The contour direction assessed before surgery was very close to the result after recovery
During the consultation, Dr. Che-Wei Chang analyzed my face shape, how the fat in my double chin was distributed, and my original jawline, and explained roughly what direction my contour would be adjusted toward after surgery.
At the time I could only imagine it from the assessment, but after I fully recovered and looked at my profile, the line from my chin to my neck was very close to what the doctor had described.
That meant a lot to me, because I knew before surgery roughly what direction the improvement would take, and the change I saw after recovery was very close to the jawline the doctor and I had discussed and that I'd hoped for.
How long is recovery from double chin liposuction? The first 7 days take the most adjusting
Right after surgery there's still swelling, and early on you need to wear a chin strap, which is a little inconvenient. I didn't even dare open my mouth very wide when eating. For me, the first 7 days were the stage that took the most adjusting, but after that I got used to it, and it wasn't as hard as I'd imagined.
After about a month, as the swelling gradually went down, the boundary between my chin and neck started to become clearer.
Goodbye to a long-standing double chin; no more editing it out of photos
For me, the most noticeable change after surgery isn't that my face suddenly got smaller, it's that after taking a photo, my first thought is no longer about editing out my double chin. The double chin that bothered me for years has clearly improved, and that's what I feel most about this change.
Liposuction directly treats localized fat cells, so it can target the double chin area I'd always been self-conscious about. I no longer worry about a double chin showing up in photos, and I'm more willing to show my profile naturally.
