Key takeaways

External under-eye bag surgery case: noticeable eye bags with age and looser skin around the eyes. After an assessment with Dr. Hou-Geng Liu, external (transcutaneous) eye bag surgery was performed, with the incision just below the lower lashes. Swelling was most noticeable in the first two weeks, smoking and alcohol had to be avoided, and after about three months there was almost no visible trace.

Remove eye bags and say goodbye to looking old!

I've worked in the beauty industry for more than ten years and think I take good care of my skin, but one thing has always bothered me: as I've gotten older, eye bags have slowly appeared. Even though my skin looks good, without fine lines or visible pores, the eye bags made my face look much older, and even makeup couldn't hide them, so I kept thinking about eye bag surgery!
This is how I looked before surgery. The eye bags were really obvious and bothered me so much ⇩ ⇩

Fixing a tired, aged look in one go!

"Get rid of puffy eye bags and bring back a fresh look!"

Before deciding on eye bag surgery, I did a lot of research. I'm not young anymore, but I really didn't want classmates at a reunion to think I'd aged! When I went to the clinic for an in-person consultation, I learned there are two types: external and internal eye bag surgery. After several consultations with the doctor, here's my summary: external surgery suits older people with loose skin, while internal surgery suits younger people with eye bags! Since I'm older with looser skin around the eyes, the doctor recommended external surgery, but I'd still suggest getting an in-person assessment from a doctor for an accurate recommendation!

My thoughts after eye bag surgery:

Above is how I looked after recovery. What a difference, right? Many thanks to Dr. Hou-Geng Liu. The result was pretty much what I'd expected, so I'll say it again: discussing things with your doctor before surgery really matters!

As for recovery, which many people worry about, I was really swollen for the first two weeks, but it's worth it to look good afterward. The clinic's nurses explain all the dos and don'ts clearly, like no alcohol, not much smoking and other small things. If you like drinking and smoking, you'll just have to hold off for a while to recover your good looks quickly!

That's about it for my experience! I was very happy once recovery was over, and eye bag surgery was truly worth it; you can see the huge difference in the photos. You're probably wondering whether you can be seen in public during recovery. For me it was manageable. The doctor said internal surgery leaves no scar but can cause some bruising and swelling. I had external surgery, so the incision is hidden below the lashes and you won't notice it unless you look closely. I usually wear glasses too, which made any bruising even less visible, so recovery was fine for me. The doctor said I healed quite well, and after about three months it was as if nothing had happened. I really recommend it to anyone bothered by eye bags. It's well worth it!
