Forehead Lift Story: Fixing Close-Set Brows for Brighter Eyes

Key takeaways

Forehead lift + double eyelid revision case: her double eyelids had drooped with age, and because her brows sat close to her eyes, revising the eyelids alone would make her look too sharp. After an assessment with Dr. Yen-Hao Chiu, she had a forehead lift as well. The three incisions are hidden in her hair; she didn't wash her hair for 7 to 8 days, was back at work on day four, and scalp sensation takes about three months to a year to recover.

"I'm Fay, I'm 27, and I work in advertising and marketing. About ten years ago I had double eyelid surgery, but as I got older I felt the creases had drooped a bit, and I wanted them to look more defined in photos. I consulted many aesthetic clinics, and they all pointed out the same issue: my brows sit quite close to my eyes. If I just had the double eyelids redone, my gaze would look too sharp, so I chose to combine it with a forehead lift..."

My work requires eye close-ups, so I care even more about bright eyes

I originally wanted double eyelid surgery because when I had monolids my eyes looked blank, a bit like a drug addict, haha. At that age I also cared a lot about my looks, and since I was often verbally bullied and insulted about my appearance, I decided in junior high to save up for double eyelid surgery. Later I fell in love with makeup, and now I run a beauty channel with lots of eye close-ups, so I care even more about how bright my eyes look and the curve of my eyelid crease.

Dr. Yen-Hao Chiu is gentle and meticulous, and answered all my pre-op questions in detail

Before my forehead lift, my main worries were whether my hairline would move up, how visible the scars would be to others, and how short the recovery could be, since I still had to work and couldn't take a long break for surgery. My doctor was Dr. Yen-Hao Chiu. The first time I met him I found him very gentle. When I asked questions he looked me in the eye and engaged with me, and he answered every question carefully, which made me trust him. I specifically discussed eye shape with Dr. Chiu, because I wanted the look of actress Liu Yifei, narrower at the inner corner and wider at the outer corner. On the day of surgery it felt like I was about to become prettier, so I wasn't too nervous; I was actually quite happy~

Perfectly hidden scars, and no discomfort apart from not washing my hair

The most uncomfortable part after surgery was actually the first day. I had IV sedation, and when it wore off it felt like a bad hangover and I was a bit unsteady, so I think you really need a family member or friend with you then. At home my scalp felt tight. Another unusual sensation was a constant itch on my scalp that I couldn't reach when scratching, like scratching someone else's head. I looked it up and found it's because the nerves are healing; by about three weeks after surgery I felt the nerves had recovered about 60 to 70% of their sensation. I didn't do any special aftercare; I just didn't wash my hair for 7 to 8 days so the incisions and nerves could heal naturally. I have two incisions above my ears and one on my scalp, three scars in total, but they're very short and cleverly covered by my hair part, so unless I tell people, nobody notices. It doesn't affect my life either. I went back to work on the fourth day after surgery, shooting outdoors on a hot day, with no discomfort at all (apart from my hair feeling greasy after days without washing, hahaha).

I got the result I'd imagined, and I'm waiting for the nerves to fully heal

I'm three months post-op, and my satisfaction is 7.5 out of 10, because the nerves in my scalp haven't fully recovered. I asked Dr. Chiu, and he said it usually takes three months to a year to heal. But I'm impatient and want to be back to normal right after surgery, so I'm more concerned about the scalp healing, and I'm holding back a bit until it's 100% recovered. So far I occasionally have a little scalp pain, also because the nerves are healing, but otherwise it's fine. There are no real after-effects, the surgery achieved the result I wanted, and the first thing people said when they saw me afterward was that I looked younger!

I recommend a rejuvenating forehead lift: take a step toward your ideal look!

I think having a forehead lift while working is no problem at all. Recovery is much faster than you'd think, so you don't need a long break for it. If you have visible static forehead lines or brows set too close to your eyes that make you look stern, a forehead lift is a great fit, because the rejuvenating effect is really noticeable~ I spent almost a year consulting about double eyelid revision and a forehead lift, and after a lot of research I found it's a well-accepted procedure; you just need a doctor and clinic you trust. Sure enough, the result so far is about what I imagined. I think it was a very worthwhile investment; I won't have to worry about my double eyelids drooping for at least ten years! As long as you save enough, consult widely and do your homework, you can move toward your ideal look!
