You must know about the skin booster treatments that are all the rage in Korea. For the many people who fear pain and needles, needle-free skin boosters are becoming more and more popular, but have you heard that a needle-free skin booster can also be used to ease pain? TargetCool, the newest device released in 2024, is a 3-in-1 that delivers pain relief, a needle-free skin booster, and cryotherapy all at once. This article explains what TargetCool is, how it works, its treatment modes, and which aesthetic treatments it can be combined with, all in one handy guide!
What Is TargetCool?
TargetCool is a "non-contact, non-invasive" skin cooling medical device made by Korea's major manufacturer Recens Medical. It is cleared by the US FDA, Taiwan FDA (TFDA), and EU CE, and also won the 2023 Red Dot Design Award. It is mainly used to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling, and can maximize the effectiveness and comfort of minimally invasive treatments such as Botox and hyaluronic acid filler. TargetCool uses an innovative rapid and precise cooling technology that reduces pain and shortens procedure time, creating a more comfortable medical experience and making it easier for more patients who fear pain to accept various minimally invasive treatments.
3 Treatment Modes of TargetCool
| Cooling mode | Delivery mode (needle-free skin booster) | Cryotherapy mode | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating temperature | -10°C to -5°C | 2°C to 4°C | -79°C |
| How it works | Keeps the epidermis at -10°C to -5°C, which reduces redness, swelling, heat, pain, and inflammation and lessens pain during injection | Delivers a solution containing ice crystal particles into the skin (at the junction of the epidermis and dermis) | Can remove skin surface lesions and diseased tissue above the dermis |
| Treatment effects | Reduces inflammation, pain, bleeding, and swelling | Speeds skin absorption; post-procedure care after aesthetic treatments; whitening; hydration; hair regrowth (combined with PRP/exosomes) | Viral warts, seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis, skin lesions |
| Features | Pain control: precise, rapid temperature-controlled cooling effectively reduces pain during injection treatments Less bruising/swelling: precise cooling technology minimizes tissue damage and speeds recovery after aesthetic treatments | Skin rejuvenation: can penetrate the epidermis and maximize solution absorption through CO2 (Bohr effect) Non-invasive: no injection and no invasiveness, so the solution penetrates and absorbs effectively and evenly | Precise cooling: high-tech cryotherapy cools more precisely, making treatment safer and results more noticeable |
Can TargetCool Penetrate the Epidermis?
TargetCool can instantly cool a solution and turn it into ice crystal microparticles, which are finally delivered through accelerated CO2 supersonic jet delivery (Bohr effect). The supersonic ice crystal microparticles can penetrate the stratum corneum and deliver a very high concentration at the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ). After delivery, the solution penetrates to the upper dermis (about 0.3mm) in depth, and the CO2 delivery mode also promotes diffusion of the solution into the dermis and surrounding tissue.
Is TargetCool Also Linked to Hair Regrowth?
Journals and clinical cases around the world contain extensive research on using cryotherapy, as TargetCool does, to improve hair loss. It mainly stimulates the scalp with low temperature, causing the sympathetic nerves to release norepinephrine (NE), which contracts the arrector pili muscles and makes the hair stand up (hair erection), speeding up metabolism and promoting hair regrowth in response to the cold.
Which Aesthetic Treatments Can TargetCool Be Combined With?
- Injectables (Botox, hyaluronic acid filler, skin booster injections): reduces bleeding and swelling
- Lasers, microneedling: reduce bleeding, pain, and swelling, help absorption of ingredients after treatment, and promote tissue repair and regeneration
- PRP, exosomes: hair regrowth
- RF and ultrasound treatments: can shorten recovery time and reduce discomfort during treatment

FAQ
Does the treatment hurt?
The whole TargetCool treatment is non-invasive. It turns the serum into ice crystal nanoparticles and gently sprays them into the dermis and surrounding tissue with CO2 delivery technology, so the process is almost painless and no numbing cream is needed beforehand
How long does the treatment take? How often can it be done? How soon will I see results?
Not including face washing and makeup removal before treatment, each session takes about 10-15 minutes, and how often you come depends on each person's skin condition. A session about every 3-4 weeks is generally recommended. In autumn and winter, weather changes may dry out the skin more easily, and you can then increase the frequency. Results appear right during the treatment and normally last about 2-3 weeks, but the exact time varies with your aftercare.
What skin types is TargetCool suitable for?
TargetCool can customize treatment to different skin conditions, but is especially suitable for dry, dehydrated, or rough skin
Is there downtime with TargetCool?
TargetCool is a non-invasive treatment, so it leaves no wounds on the skin. Afterward you will only feel slight swelling and redness, which fade in a few hours and do not affect your daily routine.
How does TargetCool's precise low temperature differ from other brands?
Other brands mostly cool with nitrogen, which is harder to control and raises concerns about frostbite and side effects, whereas TargetCool's core technology accurately senses skin temperature and reaches the treatment temperature precisely, and its low-temperature CO2 technology reduces pain, lowers inflammation, and shortens recovery after aesthetic procedures.
